Laser Treatments Before a Big Event: How Far Out to Book

Weddings, premieres, reunions. The honest downtime math for every major laser category, counted backward from the date that matters.

Every laser practice in Beverly Hills has fielded the same call: the event is in two weeks, and the caller wants a fresh face for it. Sometimes the timing works. Often it does not, and the difference is pure arithmetic about how skin heals. Here is the calendar, counted backward from the day that matters.

Six months out is when planning should start for anything ambitious. A series of non-ablative fractional sessions, a course of laser hair removal, or staged treatment of stubborn pigment all need multiple visits spaced weeks apart, and finishing early leaves room for the occasional session that needs repeating. Fully ablative resurfacing also belongs here: redness can linger for months even after the surface heals. For an independent overview, see Lasers and lights: how dermatologists use them.

Three months out is comfortable territory for a single fractional resurfacing session, ablative or not, and for starting toxin-and-laser combinations that some patients stack. Any pinkness has time to fade, and you will have seen the true result, because collagen remodeling keeps improving texture well past the visible healing window.

One month out narrows the menu to treatments with predictable, short recoveries: a light non-ablative pass, vascular work on discrete vessels, or a gentle pigment session on a spot you have treated before. New treatments you have never had do not belong inside the one-month window; a first-time reaction is rare, but the week before a wedding is the wrong place to discover yours.

Two weeks out and closer, the honest answer is maintenance only: a gentle facial, moisturizer discipline, and sunscreen. A laser strong enough to change anything is strong enough to leave marks that concealer will be fighting on the day. The exception is a true zero-downtime device you have tolerated before, and even then the sensible ceiling is one week out.

The pattern behind all of this is simple: downtime scales with how much of the skin the laser touches, and event skin needs the treatment to be fully behind it. Book the consultation the week the invitation arrives, not the week the event does.
